Neurologist #3

Then came neurologist #3, that was closer to home. He was only 1-1/2 hours away He wanted to do another lumbar puncture (YEAH) to see if anything would show up since it had been about 7-8 years since the last one. This one showed

MRI scan of side & top of brain with ms

up positive so YES, I HAD MS. My son was born in 2006 when my daughter was 7 years old, so we had 1 kid to leave with my in-laws and 1 that got off the school bus at their house after school. I got more IV steroid treatments to cure up my bad times, but we learned what was in my future, FINALLY! Good or bad I knew what cards were on the table for me. I HAD MS!

Now is the irony of my doctor situation. I got a letter from him that he was leaving the state to practice medicine in Arizona! I didn’t know who to go to now. As luck would have it I went to a new doctor in charge of the MS neurology department for the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She asked to see my previous MRIs when I went to see her, but since it had been a few years since I had one taken she sent a request to my family doctor with instructions to get 3 MRIs, a head, neck, and spine before I went to see her. At her examining room I got to see them ALL and she explained them as well. My very 1st one showed 4 spots on my brain that’s why nothing was definite! There was a couple more on the other 2, but not an EXCEPTIONAL amount of lesions (I call spots). The MRI of my spine showed plenty more, which explains my shorter walking distance, my balance problems, and not able to stand for long lengths of time. That’s also why my back hurts after being on my feet for a long time or just sitting up.

I’ve been with her for the last 9 or 10 years. She has even gotten to give me a steroid treatment a couple of times. The last times the steroid treatments weren’t IV form. They were oral! I have to swallow 20 pills every other morning for 3 days. She figured that the last time I saw her, she thought steroids wouldn’t work as well because she figured I had moved to Secondary Progressive MS. I asked if we could try because it had been almost 1-1/2 years since the last steroid treatments. She was ok with that. They worked longer than I expected the steroids to last. Now I have a leg brace because my right leg wants to roll outward. She has been the kind of doctor that I don’t have to see often. She says since I’m so far away she said to call if there were problems and she would call me back!

When we were done having kids, I gave in and tried 2 different prescription injections that my doctor suggested both times. Neither one worked for me.
